Hi,

I am setting up my new tank tonight plant came in post today. I am cloning the filter for this new tank in my mature tank so it can mature so i'm not doing a fishless cycle. So i'm setting the new tank up so the plants can establish themselves and start growing. I'm going to run the heater, and lights, but don't really want to run the filter, because the tank has actually been set up for around two months but had an ill fitting lid that allowed dust in after the tank had been set up. I have got a proper fitting lid now, but the dust doesn't seem to be leaving the tank despite me cleaning it off several times.I don't want to put the filter in because i think it was blowing the dust around the tank last time and making the problem worse. So tonight i am taking all the water out wood out, which is covered in dust too, taking the existing plant out, and the equipment washing the wood scrubbing the walls to hopefully get rid of the dust, and then putting it all back together. Will i need to put the filter back in? By the way the filter wasn't maturing it was just to help the cloudiness settle when the tank was set up?

So to summarise: Fo the plants need the filter for circulation?

Thanks.

The plants themselves do not need circulation, but other factors require circulation for plants to thrive. Such as with no circulation you will soon strat to get algae problems, nutrients & CO2 will not be delivered to all parts of the tank, ammonia may build up possibly causing algae.

So this chain leads to poor plant health, do you have a powerhead you could use?
