As some of you know, i have had a disasterous week so far, 1 tank cracked and no good, having to house all of my fish together in a Juwel vision 180, then i find out last night, that some of the fish have white spot, must be the stress etc.... I am treating them 1st day today.... then 3 more treatments up to sunday.

However there is some good news....

I have purchased a Juwel 120 and 96, currently still set up in great working order, with fish.

My only concern is, am i going to have a mini cycle on my hands?

The 120l at there house currently holds 25 platies, 15 guppies, 1 bristlenose, 5 tetra, 3 clown loach. The problem is i dont want all of these fish, and she is taking them to her lfs, the only ones i am keeping are the bristlenose, guppies and clown loach, but when i get it home, and set it up, the only fish that will be in there are 3 clown loach, and 1 bristlenose, so will i start a mini cycle off? as there will be less fish in there....

The 96l tank, is also a problem, and may go into cycle, as it currently holds a few otos, a few baby guppies and 3 huge apple snails... I will be putting all of her guppies into this tank (15) so this is also more fish than the tank currently houses.... Do you think this will go into cycle too??

My plan was to get the ratios the same by putting my fish in the 120l, but i cant straight away, as i am currently treating my tank for white spot, and dont want to cross contaminate etc.....

I had it all planned and worked out, then i have the dreaded white spot in my tank, so this as put things on hold, till my fish are cured.... Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am taking the substrate, and filter media from her tanks, filters, foams etc... rocks, bogwood, and plants, so i really dont want to lose the bacteria and be setting off a mini cycle, but i fear this will happen.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new tanks. Sorry I can't answer your questions as I don't know enough. I am having a larger tank soon and man in lfs (seemed very knowledgable) said I could seed the new tank by cutting an old sponge in half and putting it in the baskets (it will be another Juwel) and also putting some of the old gravel and water in. He said it would be ok to add some fish 2 weeks after. Will be different for you as you have a lot more fish. Good luck anyway. :)

Well the one from which you're removing the Fish certainly won't go into any cycle at all... As for the one into which you're putting 15 guppies (!), you will definately go into a mini, if not large cycle.

Incase of a cycle, I'd be worried about the otos. They're rather sensitive, and do better in a mature tank that's not constantly going in and out of cycles.

Im not keeping the Ottos..... The only fish i am keeping are 3 Clown Loach which will be stayin in the 120L for now, then will be moved to my 180l, then im keeping 1 Albino Bristlenose Plec going also into the 120l, then the 15 guppies into the 96l.

There is currently 3 large apple snails and a few ottos and a couple of baby fry, i am NOT keeping any of these, im just putting 15 Guppies into this tank.

The lady had more fish in there recently, but has been having a change around, so i guess, i will just have to put the guppies in and keep my eye on the water conditions etc every day, in case it goes into cycle

Thanx for advice peeps..

It's the amount of waste you need to consider, not the number of fish.

The 120 will be fine since the worst that will happen is some bacteria die off when there isn't so much ammonia.

The 96 I'm unsure about. The waste of three huge apple snails/some fry/a few ottos vs 15 guppies.

Is there much in it in terms of waste at the end of the day? I'd stick to the plan for sure.

Your call though.
