nothing drastic like from black to albino lol i kno that bit do there markings change as they get older?

do they become darker usually or what?

i jus bought an oscar today and its got a red tint to it but mostly black. hard to explain but i took a photo and from the back it looks mostly dark red.

this isnt like the other tiger oscars ive seen so will it change?

also its about 5 inches long. any guesses on how old it is?

Its probably a red oscar, as for your color changing question, I bought an albino oscar at one inch long roughly, and within a month he started getting kind of darker, his fins turned black and the back half of his body is like grayish in color, when he was completley white (besides the stripes) to begin with. Oh well, he is still awesome!

Oscars generally have nice bright colours when young and as they get older they tend to fade to grey, it is an unfortunate trait though if you look after them well, feed them well and have good water and room for them they may keep quite a lot of it as mine has.

They also change colour when stressed. Mine's a very deeply coloured Tiger Oscar and has all his colours out and vibrant when relaxed and happy but if either myself or any of the others in the tank stress him he'll change to a lighter all-over grey colour and lay on his side as protection.

I hope this helps somewhat. As for aging your Oscar. Mine's about a year old and is currently hitting about 8-9" overall so yours is maybe 6 months? Good luck with it anyway, they're amazing pets.

Cheers,

Pete :D B)
