Hi :)

I added new plants to my communal tank last week. I was just wondering how often they should be changed? I usually snap them off if the grow to big and replant and added some new plants for variety and the fish love swimming through them and sleeping in them. Is there a particular length of time after when they go bad? My fish also have a habit of pulling the plants up. Could people suggest some form of floating plant on top of the tank that they will like that wont die if not rooted down?

If your water isn't too soft Hornwort is a good floating plant. Anacharis is also a floating plant and some people like it a lot. Both are considered easy plants.

Plants don't go bad unless they die. If you are giving them enough light and nutrients they will survive in the tank indefinitely. Just take out any dead leaves or tissue that you find. If it is a lot then you should consider increasing light or ferts.

Are floating plants easy to find? My lfs (all three) i go to dont have any floating plants...or can most plants float? I thought if they werent in the ground to root they would die?
