I have java fern, ambulia (I think), a marimo, and some rotalla. I have only been really successful with java fern. Probably becuase I don't use anything special, but I really want a nice planet tank. So, here are my questions. In my 46 gallon  I have a mix of very small rounded gravel and some larger stuff. In my 30 gallon I have only fine gravel. Do I need to include any special fertilizer? Also, both tanks use flourescent bulbs but I really don't know what type they are. Could somebody suggest a good lighting system that doesn't require me to have to go out and buy a completely different hood. Thanks

Do you know what wattage the bulbs are, or could post a pic?
Are you waning to add more/different plants?
If you're wanting to keep easy plants (e.g Anubias, Java fern, Moss, cabomba, Amazon Sword etc) you shouldn't need to add any fertiliser as long as the tank is stocked with some fish.
