I have 2 of these in our 200l tank - is this enough to start growing plants? i dont want to be dealing with co2 n all that at first - just the basics!

well.. does say 'keeps plants healthy'. Its the colour you need to investigate, does it give a measurement? example 6500K ?

It says on the back 2850 Lumen and 10,000h

also has a little graph with different colours in the bulb - do you need that?

Kelvin doesn't really matter. Two of these in a planted tank of 200l you'll need to be thinking about c02.

You said you dont want to deal with C02 then you should get some lower wattage.......... the higher the light, the faster the growth, then you will need C02

ah i see - so is the whole co2 thing expensive? or should i just take one of the bulbs out? i havent got deep pockets

Good bulbs. You wont need to change them. As stated already, plants dont really care about kelvin. It's another myth that "plants should be provided with a kelvin between 6500K - 8000K"
2x38W over 200litre would be classed as medium light in my eyes. You could get away with just dosing liquid carbon instead of injecting gaseous CO2. DIY yeast CO2 is out of the question as 200lites is far too large for this method.
With just one 38W bulb, you wouldnt need to supply any carbon addition.

Ok so basically if i take a bulb out, i wont need to add anything extra, but the plants will grow slowly (if at all!). If i keep both bulbs in then i will need this liquid carbon stuff, and the plants will grow well....well, to be honest, i dont really want them growing much bigger than twice the size they are now... so what do you think?

here they are now :)

Correct.

Certainly is an old tank! We're looking at getting a Rio 180 soon :good:

Ive been advised already that that particular plant isnt for an aquarium, rather a pond. So annoying when you waste money like that :grr: Wish the guy in the shop had pointed it out tbh
