I have a planted 10G tank with crypts, wisteria, java fern/moss, and I want some val; I have 50 watts on it, which I think is too much for no co2? Do I need co2, and if I do, what sort of brand canister (the diffuser thing?) should I get?

I'd recommed that you may possibly have too much light, although if you don't have any alage issues then you needn't worry. Tanks of your size should be fine with DIY yeast based CO2 mixes, and I suggest you use a diffuser like the mini-diffuser available from aqua essentials.

Yeah, I think I need to downgrade the light. Do I need a reflector or something? It always looks so dim in the tank. No algae issues, but the water always overheats. Should I pick up a reflector and maybe just use two 15watts? Thanks
