i have a pair of breeding german rams and they seem to be eating a lot of the eggs should i use a breeding net?

If i were you i would fill up a 10 gallon tank with water from your main tank and transfer the eggs. Then add a touch of methaline blue to prevent fungus. Add a bubble filter and place an airline next to the eggs to keep the water around them moving.

Personally, I'd leave them to get on with it.

It often takes cichlids a few tries to 'get the hang' of things; especially if they were artificially raised themselves, as there is some evidence to suggest that fish need to have been parented to know how to be parents.

By taking the eggs away and hatching them, you're just producing even more fish that don't know how to parent.

The sight of a brood of fry being cared for by their perants is one of the most delightful things you can ever hope to see in fishkeeping, it would be a shame if we lost that by obsessing over trying to save every single spawn.

They will get the hang of it eventually, if you give them a nice, heavily planted tank and leave them in peace and quiet. Do your water changes by syphoning out and back in from one corner, and forget about gravel cleaning and fussing over them :good:
