right heres one for ya all, do fish yawn i've just been sat here watching my fish & the angelfish looks like it yawned looked really weird & boy do they have big mouths when they do it lol

Yes I believe fish do yawn just like us from time to time.

You are sure he wasnt gasping and not yawning

nope he got gasping, def looks like he yawning & he all heathy looking & everything

Yes, fish do yawn. Most of the time like us it is to get extra oxygen to the brain by taking in a deep breath. The reason we yawn when we are tired is because our body is slowing down and we aren't working so hard, so we yawn to keep our brain fuelled with plenty of oxygen.

Yawning is a process for taking more air into the lungs. So no, I don't think they do.

I've seen my fish "yawn" many times, I think they do yawn, can't say anything from a scientific point of view though...

Not necessarily the lungs... the bloodstream, however the animal gets the oxygen into it is of little difference. Yawning for a fish will be the process of opening its gills wide and its mouth wide and drawing a lot of water through its lungs, consequently meaning more oxygen gets into its bloodstream and too the brain.

Just hope my science teacher was right :p

Yea, when they yawn, they have the biggest mouths ever. Bigger than they could ever open to eat food, sometimes it's scary :D

yes they do. cichlids espically do it every single one of my fish do it. from my 8.5 inch JD down to my 3 inch festae.

I've seen my angels do it before. Angels can open their mouths more than you would think. That is the reason smaller fish aren't a good idea as tankmates.

err... fish dont have lungs :)
i do belive that fish yawn however

sorry i meant gills..

wich is actually taking in oxygen almost just like a human.
so in theory this means that fish do yawn when they are tired, just as humans.
this science thing is so confusing.

edit: ive found a way to make it even more confusing :)
they wouldn't have to open thier mouths- just thier gills.
hmmmmmmm...... i give up
