Hi, this isn't an emergency so I think this is the right place to post this. Do fish get the trots?

The reason I'm asking is that my 3 swordtails seem to be pooing constantly. Long strings of green poo. It's just the swordtails that seem to have this problem, and the females the worse. :-(

Just wondered if anybody has any ideas? Stats are ammonia 0ppm, nitrate 0ppm, nitrite 0pm pH 7.6 and a water temp of 26ºC.

PS - Just noticed 3 new fry! :D

I've had a look at the link. The fish do not have any of the symptoms.

Any live plants in the tank. i wouldn't worry to much.

Just ornaments. I won't worry about it, just found 3 swordtail fry! So the females must be healthy! Cheers Wilder.

hi
our swordies quite often have the same 'problem' as yours especially if ive put lettuce in the tank as they LOVE it. i wouldnt worry theyve just over indulged!
when we first got mollies & swordies they all always had long strings of p** hanging.im sure it was because after not much food in the lfs all of a sudden they had food food food everywhere & just went a bit mad.
the more they put in.......the more thats going to come out!!!!!!!!

I find the less Curry and Kebabs I feed my fish, the better they are.

my dwarf gouramis are like that. same thing they would eat like mad when any food came around but ive found small pellet food has stopped it so much.

I think the big issue in this thread is the use of the English language. Who the hell calls it the "trots"? :p

 Common english saying.

must be british english- i've never heard of it!

i tried some lettuce on my fish last night to see if anyone would eat it... the tetras gobbled it up, the mollies looked at me as if to say "where's the food!!!"

having the 'trots' is a very commonly used description here in the uk for an 'overactive bowel' as in you spend all day 'trotting' to the loo :D
