Came home today everything seem,ed normal, couldunt find my male betta Zues, found him behind a plant and when he swam out ATHENA attcked him, all his finns are messed up he looks more like a crown tail now... ive' put him in his own tank and added medication for his fins, i hope he survives. my other suspect is my shark Hades (who im selling on this forum) he's eaten off 5 neon tetras an a week not seen him do that untill last night... HELP is it the female or is it the Bala?

Are you breeding? Males and females will kill each other if you keep them in the same tank for something else than breeding, and even then, after they're done the male will kill the female.

EDIT: nevermind. I presume they're in a community tank? Even there, they'll rip or kill each other.

I agree with K.J. about not keeping them together. You are best keeping your male in his own tank permanently as he will be a lot happier in there. Not only that, there is a chance that the RTBS will have a go at him and the Neons may end up nipping him.

my goodness thats terrible... I have another tank with pond fish in, (bringing up shubunkin fry but are big enough to go out) i'll just put the heater on and put him there.

I have never personally seen a female attack a male BUT my mother's old Male Betta ate the female. ._.
Yeah he will kill her but I'm not sure if she'll kill him.

I'm afraid that females can be just as aggressive as males if kept together Ray. If a male pesters her, then she can turn on him quite quickly.

Hi there

No-one else seems to have flinched on this one, but I think you said you have a Bala Shark and Bettas in the same tank!?!?! Dear God I reckon you need to split them up, and the male from the female. Maybe other people have found it to be okay, but I reckon those 3 in the one tank is bad news, I reckon you will find 2 chewing on the thirds corpse eventually. If the Bala is bullying the male and has made him subordinate (lacking confidence shall we say), the female will try to dominate the male and nip him constantly (no mating intended, just showing him he is not the boss of her). I have seen this before in my community tanks, and now I never keep a male with ANYTHING else. Hope this helps

Don't put him in with goldfish/pond fish whatever they are high waste producers and inorder for his fins to repair he needs crystal clear water
