well my little runt, Violet, has exhibited this for the second time.

i should have paid attention to it more when i first got her but i didn't really think about it much.

from her little white spot, just as if you were to see a betta fish have some of it's little crap tagging along, Violet has a little thin white thread with then what appears like a little white sac and then more thread and then another white sac. and it's connected to her just as if it would be a little crap thread.

except like i said it's white and very thin.

i am beginning to think something is more wrong with this little betta than just the explanation that she is normally just tiny and a runt.

she still doesn't eat.

I've read that internal parasites can lead to stringy white poo, so I wonder if it could be something like that? I'm sure if there was a regular menses in fish, one website or another would have warned not to freak out about it. But I haven't heard anything of the sort, so I would lean toward a internal problem, particularly since she's not eating.

thank you phaedra for an insightful possibility.

not sure what i could do to deal with internal parasites, but i am open to suggestions by anyone. thank you in advance for any additional insights.

Glad to be of help. :) I've never had to deal with internal parasites in my fish, but as I recall, I have heard that you can buy medicated fish food to handle the issue.

Is she looking emaciated? What do you regularly feed her? How much does she eat? Does she get regular water changes? Can you get a picture of it?
Any other info you can provide would probably help. Maybe one of our more experienced members will come along and set us both straight. ;)

well as i mentioned, she is the only one of the new fish that i got that has not grown at all. she actually looked really good when i bought her but also had the stringy white poo in the damn cup!!!!

if only would have known about the white poo then i would have stayed away from her.

she was the one that was really picked on in the tank (maybe the other fish knew she was sick and wanted her to stay away from them).....

all my other girls are big and strong and happy but i guess i will need to treat them as well too just as a precaution.

****

violet on the other hand, rarely ate - i've only seen her eat once and that was like two weeks aga. she is definitely smaller than what i remember her in the cup when i brought her home. she is the one that exhibits stress stripes off and on. but she hasn't really lost any of her color.

rats!!!!!!

Can you quarantine her for the time being and start treating her? If she hasn't visibly eaten anything in two weeks, I would certainly start to worry.
I've got to run, but I thought I'd share this link with you as I've referred to it quite a lot and the website is really informative.
