When I put blanched peas in my tank for my plecs the danios come down to the bottom and nibble them. On one danio I sometimes see fine barbels, like whiskers. Then I look again and I cant see them. Do danios have barbels?

You're not seeing things - zebra danios have little barbels, but mostly they lie next to their bodies so you don't see them.

But the pink elephants, you're on your own... :D

Aye, danio's do have whiskers. I've a theory that only half of all danio owners know this, as the little buggers never stop long enough to be able to see them.

All Danio species have barbels, however not all danios have barbels,
that is to say the danios that are in the genus Devario may or may not have them and if they do they
may only be rudimentary ones at best.

edit
forgot to say the exception to all Danio having barbels is Danio choprae, which may well get moved into the Devario genus anyways
