do black mollys need salt?

From what i know, mollies are tolerant of salt. They naturally live in brackish water, however do not need it to live. (I have 5 mollies with no salt in the water because I also keep corries in the same tank)

Adding salt however will help the fishes immune system fight infections such as fungus or ich.

Mollies (and most livebearers) can tolerate salt water but don't necessarily NEED it. You can find mollies and guppies in pure salt water sometimes but its not a basic requirement to keeping them. Adding some salt to the water can boost the immune system of many fish.

I keep my mollies with no salt and they seem to be doing fine. After hundreds of generations of breeding they seem to tolerate freshwater.

in the wild, mollies are mostly bw fish. but since most of the ones you buy in the lfs are tank bred, and usually in fw, fw is fine. they are indeed tolerant of salt and can adapt to it easily, but it is not needed to have healthy mollies. i keep mine purely fw. some people like to add a little salt anyway, if they don't have non-salt tolerant tank mates that is. but again, its not vital.

wild mollys will need some salt but most demestic breeds do not need it, but it is healthy to have some in there if u can :D
