Okay Eros had this plant in his tank

REDBACOPA_2.png

Over 2 weeks he has completely destroyed it ripping it apart. Is that normal did he just dislike it? I have replaced it with Camomba now from my empty sorority. Which has been in there all day and hasn't been attacked. He's quite happy building a bubblenest now. Hubby thinks it might have been the colour and we should avoid anything but green from now on. I just wondered if you had any ideas?

Thank you mel x

The shape and colour of the leaves may well be it. If you look at them they are rather like bright betta tails. Brightly coloured things do seem to get them riled. One of mine tries to attack my nails if I have them painted in a bright colour.

Lol Honey, I'd love to see a vid of that. So cute! heh
As for the betta attacking it... I've never encountered anything like it, but could very well have been the coloring and shape of it making him think it was another male or something *shrugs*

OMG Honey that is so funny

Okay from know on he can have green un frilly plants LOL. I never thought about how it could like a betta's tail before. Looks like hubby was right hehehehe. A lesson learnt as they say lol. Thank you. I read up so much on Betta's before getting him and bought him plants a coconut cave moss balls etc but never thought about the colours.

Just try to avoide going to plastic plants. these tend to rip the bettas tail causing them more damage. if you want to go with fake plants go for slik. But they do really like real and it does the tank alot better

p.s you did updatr the post before i sent my post through so thats why it doesnt make sense.

sorry to high jack your thread but i have 1 red leave plants similar to this. could my betta (Once i get him) do what hers did ?

Hi There

I don't have any plastic plants for the bettas all live hehehe.

I expect it just depends on the fish LOL Wether he sees it as a threat or not. But I certainly won't be buying anymore red plants LOL.

It's marginally less cute when he FLINGS himself through a tiny 2.5 inchX 1/2 inch feeding hole in a bid to gnaw my hands off , flips about on the coverglass as I'm desperately trying to catch him and put him back in, then does an almighty flip of death off the tank and onto the table before I grab him and put him back. Which is exactly what he did today.

He is seriously the most demented and violent fish I have ever known. I named him well when I named him Bronson.

Lol Honey..... I know that must've given you a heartattack, but bad that I still think that sounds adorable, and would love to see a video of him attacking your nails :p lol

if you're looking for something betta safe easy to keep and fast growing i reccomend cabomba. it's bushy too so they have somewhere to rest and they can hide when they want :good:

LOL He sounds like hard work Honey

Lordofthesea thats exactly what he's got now and he does love it and hasn't attacked it yet. :D

If you want to add a little color, I suggest Ludwigia Repens. Mine is green with light red leaf undersides, it's low-key enough to not stir up trouble but adds a dash of color into your tank. :)

Ohhh cool. I've just ordered some more Cabomba from ebay as soon as it arrives if the qualitys good I'll order some Ludwigia Repens as they have that too. Thank you for that

Awesome. :) You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
I've heard varying things about it's hardiness, but it's survived a transplant and had rooted up nicely quickly, so there should be no issue. It looks best when clumped with itself or other plants. It's a very good all-around colored plant, I'm very happy with it.
