see i have 2 dwarfc lilies 1 banna plant so im wondering if plants help lower or matain amoonia

not enough to help you with ammonia problems. with just three plants it wont have any effect. im assuming you tested your ammonia and found that its over 0 right?

well its at 1 and im getting more

they will infact eat it, but they wont eat enough fast enough to lower it enough to show up on your test.

ammonia at 1ppm is very bad as it will leed to nitrIte spiking posening all your fish. dont be supprised if you loose an angel or two.

you still need to cycle, you have angelfish and plecos, i dont care if you put a oak tree in there. your fish will produce more ammonia than the plants can absorb.

thank you, i hope you did......

Anyway yes it does eat ammonia (it takes the nitrogen from it). Since you dont have many plants it will help but as like everyone else has said, it wont really do much. You need to have a seriously well planted tank for it to outcompete your bacteria to the point where theres very very little amounts of bacteria.

Yip, sorry Grimmy, but thats 100% correct.

If you have ammonia, you need to find out why you have ammonia first of all so you can address the problem, and do a bucketload (excuse the pun  ) of water changes to get rid of it.

Hope this helps.

will do and i promise i did get rid of the plecooh and do i argue with everyone on the forum afishdude says i do

And just because you have a lot of plants doesnt nessicarily mean that they are the main bio-filter. Remember that some plants grow slow and therefor dont take up as much nutrients as fast as other plants. So you need your plants to grow fast, to get really fast growing tanks your gonna need to do a little extra work, high light, high CO2 levels made artificial from pressurized kits, and some sort of doing technique, EI would be the best for this. This doesnt nessicarily come cheap....

But you can also get fast growing plants in low light, but that would mean that your plants may not be the main bio-filter.
