I have been thinking about getting myself a little tank for my desk along with a little buddy to go with it.

My only thought would be what happens to the little guy on the weekends? Quite obviously I would take him home over holidays etc. but I don't quite like the idea of carting him out EVERY Friday and back in every Monday. What do you guys do with yours over the weekend?

I ask cause I'm one of those people who if I go away has someone come in and feed and check on my fish, shut the lights off etc.. not one of those who can stick one of those 'vacation blocks o'food' in and go merrily on my way.

Looking forward to hearing some shared experiences.

It's not bad to fast your betta for a couple of days. Just feed them 2-3 pellets twice a day the other times, and they will be fine on the weekend. :)

I have thought about it too, but I am terrified that the cleaning people will accidentally kill it with their cleaners :X

i was considering it also, but i'm going to school from september - april so i won't be in my office during that time. so maybe afterwards, i saw at the pet store here, they have weekend tablets for troical fish, basically, the tablet thing breaks off little pieces throughout the weekend, so they are fed like that. i don't know exactly what they're made up of etc, but i have seen them.

about the cleaning people knocking them over, why not push them far back on a filing cabinet during the weekend to keep them from the edge, and put up a little caution sign? that might work!

You didn't take that hint? LoL, its ok. As she had already stated, she would never use a vacation block, the reason being because they work horribly. They cloud up your water, your fish are able to eat the whole block in one sitting (no, they don't let off a little bit at a time, if the fish wants to eat it in one setting they will), etc. If you use those you will most likely come come to dead fish. A lot of people wonder why they haven't been taking off the market yet...

ah haha, i didn't catch that part, sorry. i've never tried those things, so i didn't know what they were like, i just remembered seeing them in the pet store. so i will know to steer clear of them then thanks.

I have a betta at my desk at the office but fortunately for me we're open 7 days a week so there's always someone here to feed him. In your case your betta will be fine not being fed for 2 days. I know people who are in your situation and their bettas are just as healthy as the others. Its great to have a little friend at your desk during work...
