i started a planted aquarium not long ago and i put some fertiliser in and they look real good but what i dont know is how often should i put in the fertiliser?

these are the methods for finding out that i know of

1) using a test kit to see what fert levels are low
2) looking at the plants and watching for defficiencies
3) tom barr's estimatative index for dosing
4) just regularly dosing and hope that algae doesn't break loose hehe

buy your pleco's algae waffers made by hikari...work great and offer tons of the good stuff pleco's like..

controlled algaed = good
algae outbreak = bad !

algae wafers ! = good!

or you could also feed em cocumbers ... i think they will go for that and a lot of other veggies and plants

That's a dangerous game IMO. As suggested I would recommend feeding dry foods. I beleive Plecs require a balanced diet too, not just algae.

All of my fish seemed to enjoy spinach. A varied diet of wafers and veggies is even better than just wafers and algae.
