Hey guys, was just wondering if it is common/healthy for Angels to change, or add new colour?.

I'm not sure how old he is (we call it a he :p), we have had him for about 8-10 weeks, and he was about an inch (body) long when we got him from the lfs, now he's about 1.5+".

His name is "Nitro", he's silver with black markings (not stripes) and lately we noticed he seems to be going gold around his crown, and along his dorsal fin. Is it usual for juveniles to change/develop new colours as they grow?

Thanks for any info, as this is our first Angel fish. I was worried at first when I noticed it around the crown thinking it was HITH (not that I have seen HITH before), but since not seeing any discharge and seeing it on the dorsal fin too, can only put it down to him changing colour. Is this a natural process, or would it have to do with any environmental conditions?. He seems happy and vibrant, and always eager for a feed.

Am - 0.0
nI - 0.0
nA - 10
pH - 7.0

Thanks again,

Michael.

It's normal for them to develop more color as they mature. I think wild type silvers with the gold in the crown are one of the better looking angels.

Thanks for the reply Tolak, yeah he (it) is a great looking fish, I had been having a search to try and identify the species but there is a few that he looks like, and now that his colour is changing I was getting all confused. He has black eyes, 1 black and 1 white ventral fin. Does their eye colour change at all (ie. red)?

I also have previously browsed at some of your threads, including the pics of your breeding set-up at home. So looks like you are the man to see with Angel questions :p.

Thanks again for your help :good:

Michael.

He sounds like a marble angel? Here is a link to a pic I found on Google of one (I don't have a pic of mine yet):

Ours, like yours was black and silver (and has odd "legs" - one black and one white) when we got him. He now has a gold crown, which is pretty common in the marked varieties like kois and marbles.

I love the variety of colours in angels. My black angel (juvi) has developped a red dorsal fin, and my kois and silvers have developed turquoise ventral fins. One of my silvers has bright blue ventrals and a chocolate crown and chocolate/red dorsal fin. He's looovely.

Thanks for the info Kathy. The link that you supplied is a bit of a different shape, though by the look of its ventrals it is a fair bit older. He also has much more black than ours.

I have a picture that I took (though it is not a very good one) of him posing for the camera. Maybe someone can tell us what he is from this.
