I have Chinese Algae eaters. I am wondering if they do any harm to plants.
They are pretty small right now 1-2 inches.

If they do, what kind of damage do they do on what type of plants?

The tank should be heavily planted and have a fairly strong currant. This will closely mimic its natural habitat. An easy fish to care for, they are vegetarian in nature but will accept flake food supplemented with algae wafers.
So not they should not do harm to your plants.

These may be the worst algae eaters available. At the size you have them now they dont pose much of a threat but the bigger they get the meaner they get. Slow moving fish will get hickies on thier sides and once they've tasted proper fish food, they will almost cease to eat bad tasting algae. They have been known to kill african cichlids and many other fish when they 'sleep' on the bottom during night.

If I was you I would get rid of him and buy Oto's or some Bristlenose Pleco's.
