I would like to breed my female with several unrelated males to mix up the gene pool in the offspring. Will the female spawn with other males in the future after spawning with the first male? For spawning attempts I place the pair in their own tank with no other males.

They are like people. They are guaranteed to mate for life if they never meet anyone else. Otherwise, all they need is to be in sync for spawning.

Wait, they mate for life if they kill each other after spawning.

Ha ha. Should I remove the female to another tank? I noticed fry this morning.

Broodcare is a modelled instinct, from what I can see. I always gave females a month with the fry, as breeders often say that makes the fry better parents as they grow. Given how domestic and linebred Apistos are often not that great at parenting, I think there's something in that.
