Hi, I want to build a long tank that is shorter in heigth for my cory cats. I figure I want it to be 32x12x12, thats roughly 20 gallons US. The glass I can get is at work and its about a quarter on an inch thick, will this thickness due? should the base glass piece be more thick than the others? Any comments or opinions will be appriciated.
Thanks

ok let me see 32x 12 x 12.

1. yes the bottom should be around 1/2 inch. all you need to do is to glue two of the glass plates together. Use UV glue for glass

2. you should really use 8mm which is 1/4 inch ish. if you dont want to be able to view through the side or back of the aquarium you do the same as the bottom. just glue two pieces together. is you could get 10mm 1/2 inch you could go large...
Visit you local scrap heap and see if you can find some 10mm its easy and cheap...

problem you will need to cut it.

my girlfriends grandfather can cut glass, all get the old fart to help me... lol
jj. There is lots of glass at my work... I pretty much work at a scrap heap you could say.

Why not just get a 20 L for those dimentions? Think they are like 25 bucks and have a nice trim on top and bottom.

Yeah i was thinkin that. It would prolly cost more to buy the big sheets of glass, and way more effort to put it together. I might want to make one out of acrylic.

Ill get you the sheets for cheap and you can build it... lol I think we have five or six 4' x 4' sheets of glass. Only about 1/4" thick. We even have some glass w/ wire inside. Real cheep, the boss prolly wants them out of the way.

I actually found a tank that has measurements close enough to the size I want. I might get it, it's 32x12x16.
