Ive been looking into DIY co2 just of late. Im thinking the whole yeast and sugar in a bottle method. I was just after some reassurance.

I'd have the ingredients in the bottle. This obviously creates the co2. An airline tube will be connected to a hole in the lid. This will then go to a diffuser? Correct? Would this be suitable?

Would I need anything else? Thanks

I'm not sure about the diffuser, all iam using at the moment is an air stone that creates VERY fine bubbles.
In my other tank i have taken a wooden dowel, scrather the grooves from around the outside so that it is smooth, the bubbles then exit the end of the wooden dowel into the tank very finely.

But you are right about the setup, in my 40 gallon, I have two holes in two 1.5 litre bottle lids, I then have two small lengths of airline tubing leading from each bottle, into a three way T connector, the tubing then leaves from the T connector up to my tank, half way along is a check-valve, just in case, dont want the c02 mixture in the tank for obvious reasons, after the check-valve it leads straight to an airstone, i took a quick video to show you:

ah m8, thats sweet. Thank you, especially for the vid.

You mind if I ask you a few more questions?

1) What have you put in the bottle? and how often do you change them?
2) How long have you had it set up? Positive effects?
3) Is it okay for that size tank? I was looking at DIY co2 for my 20 gallon, thinking it wont be enough for the 40 gallon?
4) What do you dose aswell as the co2? Would the tank need easy carbo aswell?

I didn't think of just using an airstone, ill look into it, and sorry for all the quezzies

Anyone know? Im thinking two of these in my tank. Would that be sufficient with one bottle running of each?

Thanks

1) One cup of sugar, and one Tsp. of Yeast, then filled the rest of the bottle up to where it starts to get smaller with WARM - TO HOT water, not hot. I usually see it starting to bubble and work within a hour or so. This lasted me a week.
2) I have the one in my 12 gallon tank set up for two weeks, the one in my 40 gallon has been set up for almot a week.
3)For my 40 gallon, the two 1.5litre bottles are enough :)
4) as well as the c02 I dose regular plant minerals, I dont dose any extra c02.

ok thanks, what do you think of the diffuser in my last past? Im thinking 2 of these will be enough to disperse the co2 around the tank. Do you not think dosing easycarbo is needed to?

If no, im thinking tpn+ and DIY co2 with medium lighting, how does this sound?

Thanks for your help

Sounds ok to me, i'd wait for a pro to answer though ;)

ok cheers bud. Some reassurance from experienced DIY co2's please

Just dont bother with DIY co2, its not thatgreat, un sustanable levels in co2 with only cause you more problems than desired. Save you pennys and get yourself presurised co2 and master that. You will benefit more from it in the long run.
