Depends on a lot of factors. What are you using to diffuse? What's the surface agitation like?
As a general rule I'd use 1 x 2l bottle, 2 ucps sugar, 1tsp yeast on the 36 gallon, and for the nano I'd start with 1 x 1l bottle, 1 cup sugar, 1/4tp yeast and see how it goes.
the 2 ltr pop (soda for our colonial friends) are pretty much all you need, the will hold a fair amount of pressure and wont shatter if knocked like glass.
