Diy Co2, How Much Sugar Yo Use?

Everwhere i look it says 2 cups but what amount does the average cup hold, i am using a 2l bottle and don't know if i am adding to much or little

I use 2 cups, which when I measured it out came to 1 pint which i mix with 1 pint of water.

I put 1 teaspoon of sugar in a cup with 1/2 tsp of yeast and add some warm water and then 'froth' this mixture up and leave for about 1/2 an hour. Then I add this to my water and sugar mixture in my 2l bottle and I get bubbles within 5 mins.
