I've learned so much from this forum in just the past few days that I felt I should give something back. I started using a DIY C02 setup a few days ago and was trying to figure out a better (and cheep) way of diffusing the bubbles. I'm using a standard yeast in a bottle method pumping into an air stone. As I was attaching the air pipe to the side of my tank with a suction cup I thought to myself, "hey, this would work as a backwards umbrella pretty well." So I cut a hole through the middle of a cup, and ran the air line through the hole, giving the airstone a little umbrella for the C02 bubbles to get stuck under. Not a bad little method for only 10 cents.

IF the amount of CO2 dissolves into the water and the umbrella is not overrun by c02 this method is ok. try looking at this site

there is a nice section on Co2 dissolving methods, try them out!

I like your idea, France. I use the bottom of a 250ml plastic bottle as an inverted bell which then is attached to the wall using a suction cup. And I always have to juggle a bit to get the bubbles to rise up into the cup :)

You could try using this idea but attached to the tube (like you've done).
