my platy looked as though she was ready to pop. then i woke up this morning and she is thin. could she of aborted? i cant find any fry. would the fish have eaten them as i have lots of plants and hiding places or could they have been sucked up the external filter?

Its posible they were all eaten, does the tank have any dense planted area's in it? Its unlikely they were sucked into the filter though, healthy platy fry usually do fine with filters around, they tend to only get sucked up into them when they become ill and weak.

it is densley planted. i have lots of different plants and java moss.

Then there should be some platy fry in the planting still then :good: .
Seriously though, in my experience platy fry are a lot better at hiding in stuff like planting than what guppy fry are at doing- a month or so ago i was spending a lot of time re-decorating my main tank and i honestly didn't expect i'd find much in the way of platy fry, but when i started to properly explore and move around the planting in the tank, i suddenly realised there were dozens of platy fry in the tank, many of which were from different mothers. So there could still be some platy fry in your tank if its very planted  .

I agree.

I thought my platy fry had been eaten but they started to turn up after a few days when I looked carefully. One didn't show for a week and my tank isn't very densely planted so it'll be even harder for you to find them.

The fry can be eaten, some fish are more likely to eat them than others, so it depends what else is in your tank as well. :)
