My platy died this morning in the hospital tank, from columnaris and bacterial finrot. How should I set about it getting the tank safe for the next occupant? I asked the lfs for an aquarium disinfectant and they sold me some methylene blue. Would that do the job or should I use a weak bleach solution?

Suppose I'd better dump the plants, shame because they're pretty, but can't be helped. Presumably I can disinfect the gravel? And get new filter media?

I'd use bleach solution. What type are the plants? You can disinfect them as well. The gravel, boil it. Then to make sure the bleach is gone, fill the tank with heavily dechlored water.

Use miltons or something similar (found on the baby aisle in most supermarkets used to sterilise babys bottles) Make sure to rinse well you can do the plants in a watered down solution too.

1 part bleach, 30 parts of water. i dont really think it needs to be disinfected though, just rinse everything with warm water and let it sit, or just leave it in the sun
