Getting rather disheartened now about keeping fish, i rarely nurse them back to health again once they've come down with something. In my mind i can't do anything more to keep them clean and healthy. I've spent so much time and money on meds and trying to make them happy and comfortable yet there's always something to worry about. Maybe i'm overreacting, just annoys me!! I want so much to be able to look after my fish when they get poorly!!! I've only had two success stories out of about ten now! But when i managed to treat them i was so overjoyed and felt i had acheived so much!

At the moment i'm struggling with some kind of fungus which i have been treating for a bit now but it doesnt look like its getting any better!! It frustrates me, do any of you ever get like this??? xx

Try looking after tanks for a living!!!!!!!

All i do is simple water changes, filter cleans, gravel cleaning, maksure the fish are not being over feed, and the fish do the rest.

The larger the tank the easier it is to look after. If you have a small tank then this can be the route some problems.

You can over treat as well to gotta be careful there as well......

If you want hardy fish then get only African cichlids their easy to keep in a tank with rock's and no plants, do 20% weekly water changes and their survive for years.

That's all i did in the beginning but when my electricity went for two days it bu**ered it all up. It's on the cards that at some point they will get ill, they just seem very hard to treat. I love having them as pets though, i get so much out of keeping them sometimes. I shall remember your recommendation in the future about cichlids, thank you xx

96 litre tank, you can see my profile for the fish i've got :) x

I do a gravel sweep every week with the partial water change, feed them a small amount of food twice a day, they have a varied diet, the nitrite levels are 0, the ammonia levels are 0, the nitrate level is low and ph has always been the same ever since i got them passed on from a friend.

There could well be an underlying problem which is causeing illness. What are the details of your tank? inmates, size, etc?
