Diseased Fish

To pipe in and agree with Miss Wiggle, the best LFS we have in the area always has quarantined fish. Usually it's because of the stress from shipping that causes it as I rarely ever see "old" fish in quarantine. It's just one of the dangers of shipping fish. The worst I've seen was when they had 10 or so tanks quarantined out of maybe 200. That was a big deal to me because it's so rare to see more than two or three sick tanks at any one time. And it's never anything worse than ich or the occasional finrot.

I work in the second largest fish store in Sacramento. Unfortunatly when you handle fish numbers in excess of 10,000 fish, Disaese and other things do happen. Most of the time they do come like this from the whole sale people. We always Quarintine our fish when sick or just coming in. We take a big buisness loss when we do this as well because we cant just turn off one tank. we have to close down a whole system since we have 10 tanks on each sump. You guys should commend the stores that do this as it takes alot of time and money. Me personally, I would and have bought reabilitated fish. As far as disease fish go, depends on what it is and if my hospital is big enough.

Typically, I leave if I see any diseased fish in a tank anywhere near the fish I'm interested in. Especially if it isn't marked as being in quarantine.

I usually get my fish from one local shop that puts all their fish in Q for a week once they come in. I've only seen 1 sick fish in all of their "for-sale" tanks in well over 10 trips. I consider that great. I've bought fish right out of their Q tanks before since I'm confident in their ability to take care of them (I ask too many questions).

while Petco and Petsmart are pretty good about marking tanks as diseased, it always drives me bonkers when they still sell fish from other tanks on the same sump! >.<
