i've got a 40gal freshwater tank that has been up and running for three months and has a pair of rams pair of kribs two otos.will a pair of disc do good in this tank the ph of this water is a steady 7.5 with 0 no3 and 20ppm/no2 and is keeped in the mid 80*.wife really likes the disc and if i need to move any fish to separate tank's i will.

I don't see why people say kribs are boisterous. Mine where to start with but after they got used to the tank they are scared of some of the fish in the tanks, and the rainbows tend to give the kribs a run for their money.

I guess they get their bad name because people put them in small tanks which, as with any cichlid amplifies their aggresiveness.

are disc like oscars and go thru a sulk period? put in three disc about two hours ago and they are hiding in the top corners near the filter and heater.

Discus work best on their own and in a bare bottom tank. They need immaculately clean water for one and have unusual eating habits also. They have a small digestive system for a big fish and tend to graze liesurely. This means they do best when they have no competition for the food and can be fed several times a day in smaller amounts.

Hi saulgonzalez :)

One of the best fish to live in a discus tank are C. sterbai:

This is one of the most beautiful of the many kinds of cory cats available. A school of them living at the bottom of a discus tank insures that the bottom is kept clean and free of uneaten food.

These corys are unusual in that they thrive in the warm water and other conditions required to keep discus healthy. :D

no the discuss cant go with the kribs, kribs are too boisterus
wow not my experience at all, I had both in a 125 and both bred regularly.

a 125 is a lot bigger than a 44g.

since you went on ahead and got the discus, i'd just monitor for aggressive behavior and be prepared to separate if necessary.
