Is it ok to have just 1 discus, or will he like some buddies.
Just thinking about possible future plans for my tank.

It is best to keep 4-6 discus in a tank. Allow at least 10 gallons per fish.

In other words, you need a big tank, regardless of how many fish, not one in a ten gallon tank or two in a 20. :p

But they need to be kept in a group.

I've only got a 125ltr tank (UK)
thats 27 (uk) gallons, what ya think?

You can keep Discus in that tank, but I would go for an established adult pair.

You have to be carefull with water quality.

I wont be getting them yet, tanks only just got going, but i dont want to fill up with too many other fish if i can get some discus in the future, they are really nice fish
Its best to use softer water for them isnt it?

Yes, you can...how about your water condition now?
Discus if still 2inch-3.5inch, they more like water with harder condition, it good for their growth. but if you keep adult discus, they more tolerate softer water.

I keep a pair in a 29 gallon tank. A lot of breeders use 20 gallon tanks. So if you can get a pair they would be ok in your tank.

I agree that IF you can get hold of an established adult pair and your tank's water parameters have stabilised, you can keep a pair of discus in there. However, don't attempt to keep 2 random discus or something as you'll likely encounter problems and have serious losses.
