Do any of my discus look stunted? I have had them for about 2 months now and am totally new to this Discus thing. Someone on another forum said some of them look like they have big eyes:

The fish first, in the forth, and last pic have really good shape and color. I hate to break it to you, but there are a few that do look stunted. Both the blue diamond in the second pic and turquoise (?) in the fifth picture have bad shape. The diamond is foot ball shaped, which is almost always a guarantee of a stunted fish. The other fish has a very long forehead, they skims close to the eyes, this also, is a sign of a stunted fish. Don't fret though, this probably isn't your fault. Could be due to the treatment at both the hatchery or the LFS (if they stayed there a while.) Sometimes the parents aren't great either.

The blue diamonds may well be stunted, their eyes are way larger than normal, though the rest look OK to me. How long have you had them? Where did you buy them? What size are they at in the photos? What is your waterchange regime like?

All the best

ive got stunted discus as well, but theyre healthy so im not bothered about it,they still are the most enjoyable and beautifull fish ive ever kept

Thanks guys. I'm disapointed that some are stunted. I've had them for about 2 months now. I got them from a LFS (one that is pretty trustworthy) but I don't know how long theyd been there. I change %50 twice weekly with smaller clean ups in between. I've been feeding them 4 to 5 times a day (NLS, colorbits, hikari discus and bloodworms). In the photos the red one and the larger yellow one are about 3.5" the smaller yellow is close to 3" the spotted greens are between 2-2.5" and the blues are only 2" and they don't seem to have grown much since I got them. What can I expect with stunted fish?

I'd say blue diamonds are stunted, Stunting was done when they were much younger, keep up your feeding and waterchanges and you should get more growth out of them and they will colour up more as well. They will be a little smaller and have larger eyes than other discus and not quite as round but will still be lovely colour and nice looking fish, beauty is in eye of beholder. I have a stunted discus (one of my own mistakes) but just as pretty as others and lots of character, and no reason why they can't be good parents as its not genetic.
