i was wondering about discus can anyone give me some details on them and i was wondering if you can house them with a guarami 5 barbs and a pleco or would it be over stocked

Discus require 45ltr/10gal per fish to grow to adult size and be healthy.
The minimum size tank for discus is 100ltr/22gal, thats to house an adult pair no other fish.

I dont recomend barbs and guarami as there not to comftable at higher temps, the usuall suspects are cardanals, rummynose, penguin, glow light tetras and a few more besides certain cats, rams and apistogrammas also do well, what ever you add muct be peacefull and able to stand higher temps.

its a 30 g could i still house it with those other fish minus the pleco....thanks

Well, i just spent the whole day reading a book on discus, so i can answer you easily.

Sorry, but the barbs won't be able to stand the higher temps the discus need, plus they are very active fish, so the dicus will often be frightened. Discus need to be kept in minimums of 2, or else they do feel unsafe (not sure, but pretty sure). And adding 2 discus to your tank would be overcrowding with the barbs.

Discus are best either as a pair (compatible male and female) or as a group. Just getting two may be risky. Xamdarb to be honest I don't think Disus are the right fish for you.

Discus are by no means a beginners fish, they are deffinately an advanced fish.
If your going to keep them in a smaller housing/ tank then you will need to do water changes almost every other day to keep up with the water quality you would need.

Barbs are not a good choice for discus, they are feed very 'fast' and would frighten the discus causing stress.

i keep mine around 82 degree F, some keep as high as 86 ive seen prolly higher

EDIT:

If you read the link given it gives u a prefered temp. 86 F

Discus are not to hard to keep as long as you understand there basics requirments, discus need constant good quality water with a stable PH and temp, which is free from contaminets (ie ammonia, nitrate, desolved metals and higher levels of nitrate and phosphate)

I recomend you do some reading on discus and under stan there needs fully or else you could end up killing them through ignorance, and that would be a sad and exspencive mistake.

For sure no as bar is well known fin nipper ur disus r slow moving fish they will get very stress with bar arround also pleco will attach them self to slow moving fish to suck their slime coat which make the fish stress and disease will come eventurally.

Discus are really good for someone with a genuine interest rather then a passing fancy, and someone with a genuine interest would already know all these simple and basic questions. These forums are not supposed to be instead of research, it's supposed to be in addition to.
