Discus Wound

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is an emergency or not.
One of my small discus seems to have an open gash on his side.
Would this be caused by another fish or could it be a disease?
How do I treat this?
He is in a tank with other discus, vieled angels, bala shark and a few other small species.

In another one of my tanks (my lake malawi tank) I have actually noticed 2 of my electric yellows with similar problems only on a smaller scale.

If you could offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Maybe it scraped on something while bursting(running) away
Try to look for anything sharp or anything that might be able to do it.
By the way are the black spots normal? I see it on my discus too O:

Yeah it's just speckling. They do that if they are in a tank with dark background and substrate. Some discus just get that because it's part of their colouring.
Doesn't mean any harm.

I use something called api stress coat. It is a conditioner. It calms the fish and
helps to heal fish that have been affected by injury or disease. I've
had the same bottle for months now. Search "Api Stress Coat" on the web

Were it me,,I would isolate the fish if possible, and treat the isolation tank with bacterial medication (ie) Maracyn, Maracyn II.
I am not a big fan of medicating fish but is what I would do were it my fish.
Would not waste time with Melafix,Pima fix,stresscoat.

Its certainly worth keeping an eye on, the other fish might consider it a free meal if they get a taste for it.
