Hello,

I've 4 Discus medium size and one small, they're all won't to eat, i've them from 1 month ago,

At the moment i tried many food types: 1.flack food, 2.tetra bits. 3blood worms (dry)

But failed,,,

Sometimes they're fighting. and knocking each other,

So sign's of diseases, and they looking good, strong headshape and intensive colours,

my tank is 55 gallon..

Anyone can help please help me, i'm confused with those fishes!!!

What are your water parameters? How often do you do water changes? How large are the discus? How is the tank setup, filters/decor/tank mates?

Sorry for all the questions! I had a Discus go about a month before it would eat normally, as long as it looks ok you should be fine.

Thanks very much (kev-kb) for your interesting,

I'd to tell you, my water status are fine. Ph 7.0 Kh 5 Gh 9 and no Nh3, NHl4, etc...

By the way i've seen my discus many times comes to eat but eat the bits then spit it out!!

I dunno why beautiful fish like this do that?!

No any disease symptoms. and they're looking nice and healthy..

Are they playing around!! hahahah

If you can get any live food like misquito or blood worms they would surely start to eat.
If you cant get any live foods frozen blood worm could also work

But of they are all healty and do not have narrow forehead then they might just be getting enought food and it just doesnt seem like they are.

Discus fight to show who is the dominate fish, I wouldnt be to worried unless they start hurting eachother, my discus fight some what regularly but they never hurt each other.

I wouldn't go with live worms unless you are culturing them yourself as they can cause discus to get worms. I would suggest trying some hikari frozen bloodworms or live brine shrimp.

What is your temp? Discus do not do well in anything under 86 degrees. Are there any tankmates with your discus? Is the tank planted or bare bottom? When did this behavior start? The full month you have had them or did they used to eat for you?

Do you notice any "holes" on the disucs's head? This could be HITH disease which causes them to stop eating. Its also possible they have worms. You could try hitting them with some Hikari Prazipro. One dose is good for 5-7 days and within about 12 hrs you will start to see them passing worms. What does their poop look like? Is it a good black color or is it white? If its white its a sign of disease and I would hit them with Metro.

One more question.. do they "flash" (rub against objects in your tank like they are trying to scratch themselves.)

Good questions (Amber), you gave me another chance to estimate my fishes again.

I don't like the live food idea, is causes internal parasites.

Temp is btw 28~30 C always.

Sometimes i see them flashing,, but no any white spot sign, i guess internal parasite do that?

Sometimes i see a white feces from the smaller one, its very thin too, i'm worried about it.

I started yesterday to hit them with Metronidazole, should i treat them for 5 days??

My tank is heavily planted by the way.. and the other tank mates a shoal of neon, rams, dwarf gurami, X-ray tetra fish...

Thanx very much again..

Ok.. well if they are flashing at times.. it could be bacterial or flukes make them flash too. But if there is white poo... its also a sign of hex. Treating with metro is the best route to go. Tell me.. did you put them in a QT tank for treatment? Metro works best if you can get the temp of the tank ABOVE 90. Otherwise your just kinda wasting it. PLUS.. the first two doses.. you need to double dose. I use hikari metro+ and it says 1 cap per 10 gallons. So if you have them in a 10.. you need to do a HUGE w/c.. 50% at least.. then dose 1 cap right away (this is for a 10 gallon remember) and somewhere around 10 hrs later.. give them another cap. 24 hrs after the first dose.. do another 50% w/c and dose double again. Then for the rest of the 5-7 days do just a single dose. Do you understand? (Sometimes it can get confusing reading med directions on here)

Thanx Amber again.

But i don't have hikari and i can't find it here.

While i treating them with METRO, can i use (PP) together? (Potassium Permanganate)

My discus wouldn't eat until I fed them beedheart. They love it. They have now started eating pretty much anything I put in.

Go to the butchers and get a beef heart, chop it up into chunks, pop it into the blender for a few minutes until fine. They scoop it out into food bags and flatten out so you have about 5mm, freeze it and break a bit off when you want to feed them. I've also noticed that my discus tend to like red foods better.

Be sure not to feed them too much in one go. Little and often is the key.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure about PP... never used it, but as a general rule.. I dont like to mix anything with meds. I would definitely do the metro treatment tho. White poo is not a good sign.

Discus will do fine at ph 7, softness and consistancy are more important. Basically if you match the water parameters of your Discus supplier you should be fine.
