Discus With AngelFish

As it has been said many times, you cant keep Discus with Angelfish because the Angelfish harbour an internal parasite that effects Discus but not the Angels.



What I would like to know is, if you have kept Angelfish in the main tank for many years and move them to another tank, would you be able to keep Discus in the Main tank afterwards, without giving it a complete clean out?

Although most wont recomen discus and angles toghether for the reasons you said, many people do, do it sucssesfully just by qaurentine and treating fish before they go into the main tank (good pratice and good husbandry)

I would always recomend a good clean, as old setups can harbour lots of waste in the gravel and under decor etc.
Buy doing a good clean and water change you would ensure the water is as clean as possible before you discus arive, minamizing the stress.

Also find out the water peramiters of your suplyer and try to match them this will minamize stress.

Thanks 4 the advice, would the parasites survive in the water afterwards or do the Angelfish have to be present to pass them on.

They would survive for a short time, but most will die off without a host , there is epseptions.
