hello

i am thinking about getting a discus tank and i am wondering what kind of tank would be suitable

it would also help you could tell me a bit more about them, if anyone has them

cheers!! :)

There was a similar post under new world cichlids section a couple of weeks (around about that) ago, so if you search through there that will help.
I've been looking into keeping them too, and this is from research rather than experience but:
Shoaling fish, need to be kept in groups when juvenilles
Reckon on around 50 litres of water per adult fish
need warmer than normal water - around 28C
Need really clean, nitrate free water, so lots of water changes needed.
Keep alone, or with peaceful slower moving fish that can cope with the high temparatures - e.g. cardinal tetra's
Ideally soft acidic water required- lots of people recommend RO (reverse osmosis) water to remove heavy metals, and soften the water.
Need peace and quiet - so not in passageways or near doors etc
There are probablly loads of other things I've forgotten, so no doubt someone else can help fill the gaps.
