My tank is a Juwel 240 Litre, I think thats around 55 Gallons. I keep 7 Discus of around 3 Inches, 2 Plecs, 11 Neons, 1 Male fighter & 2 females, 2 rams, 4 YoYo Loaches, 2 Clown Loaches and 1 Angel, I know you shouldnt keep Angles with Discus but this was before I knew that, but I think this Angel thinks it is a Discus, Doesn't bother them. Anyway, Is my tank big enough for 7 Discus?

I'm to tired to do the maths in inches right now, but by the sound of it, you seem over stocked!

i dont know much about discus but i belive they get 8 inches so 8 x 7 would be 56 so in a 55 gal thats barely making it. i would add extra filtratrion if i were u......ummm what was the point of telling us about the other fish if you arent counting those in....and whats the point of the post, do you plan to get a tank just for the discus or something?

oh ok.......you might want to post in the new world cichlid section. you might get more info. all i know about discus is that they get around 8 inches and can be very sensitive and are pricey as #%^#. so i cant help any more than that.

Discus can be fussy at the best of times and tend to need better water wuality than an overstocked tank, and with a group of 7 you are likely to get at least one pair in there who, once paired, will become somewhat aggressive to the others in there.

I am fairly certain you can't keep 7 discus in a 55 gallon.

For discus most recommendations are for around 10 gallons per fish. Without anyhting else in your tank, you could maybe stretch this to 6, becuase they do best in groups and 5 might not be enough...

just to let you know that your tank is 63 gallons lol so its better than you thought

240 litres is 63 gallons approx

6 Discus in that tank is not unreasonable, but this is strictly assuming you've gotten rid of the other fish and that you are very diligent with your tank maintenance.

hey Crackmonkey,
How well do your plecos treat your discus? I am need some algae eaters for my discus tank but very hesitant because I heard that they can suck discus slime...

lol his name is crackmonkey not crack head  i dont think he will take to kindly being called a drug addict

Angel fish are part of the same family as discus and should 'in theory' get along fine, so no need for too much concern there (probably explains why he's schooling with them too!). But discus are far more pretty... :p

Apart from my tetras (which I really need more of!), I keep the upper level free for the discus, so I'm hoping to expand to 8 - 10 discus in total, with a ground level community of small fish like corys and froggles!

I received some very good advice on these forums a while ago about stocking the levels of a tank correctly, and it's serving me well so far... :D
