I've got a question or two about discus tank mates, what are they? People have told me the following fish are compatible as tank mates with discus, Rams, Dwarf chiclids, Elephant noses, Rainbow fish, Plecos, emperor tetras and other tetras, knife fish, oscars ETC any suggestions and comments about what tank mates i should add to my discus?

i have kept Rams with discus many time with great results, thease days i only keep discus in them tanks, but more so for my love of only discus

I dont want to upset you or anything, and Im sure your just asking for the future, but please do not add anymore fish to your tank until it has completely finished its cycle. Even then wait several weeks after having ZERO ammonia and nitrIte before adding anymore fish, then do so slowly.

From that list the only suitable tank mates are

Rams
Dwarf Cichlids
Rainbows
Most tetras

The others are too big, messy, boisterous or downright agressive to go with sensitive fish like discus, however the important point is as minxfishy say's below, you're tnak will not be completely cycled yet, all you need to worry about is getting your water changes done every day and getting the fish you have healthy. What tankmates you add is going to be a question for several months down the line.

Ummm did you read this thread? he was asking what he could keep with discus!!

I'll elaborate Miss Wiggles post, saying some rainbows are suitable with discus. Others are too fast and will put the discus into a constant state of fear, stressing them. Stressed discus rarely eat, so this situation you want to avoid :good: Discus are amongst a select few fish that will happily starve to death if there is something wrong.

Miss Wiggle makes a vaild point over not adding more fish untill the tank cycles. Here on TFF, FishStick, we tend to try and avoid OP's running into problems where possible, so even if they don't ask, we point out potential stalling points if we know them from other threads ;) Discus won't like a cycling tank. Adding more fish will prolong the cycle, and this increases the chances of the discus (Not to mention the new fish) perishing as a result

All the best

aye, if you look at the other posts from the OP you'll see he's already having some considerable problems from having discus in an uncycled tank, so advise was given in the context not just of this post but of the other posts from the OP.

And as Rabbut quite rightly pointed out, sometimes people don't know the right questions to ask as they don't know that they need to know the answer. So sometimes we can say OK this is the answer to your question, but the more important question you should be asking now i X, and the answer is Y :good:

Yes I did and I also read all the other posts from the OP with all the problems he's been having with his discus in a UNcycled tank!
