Ok here is the deal, I have a 90 gallon that will be getting set up in the new year, but I want a planted tank with discus. First of all, I would be grateful if someone can tell me the requirements for a discus, and what I would have to do everyday to make sure they stay alive. Also how many could I put in a 90 gallon with about 20 neons.

What dimensions does the 90 gal have (I assume this is 90 US gal? just doublechecking) and what strength of filtration are you using? ugf/internal/canister/sump? how many gal/hour are going to be filtered?

the dimension are 48"x18"x24", and yes this is US gallons, I will be using an emperor 400 made for 80 gallons, and a penguin bio wheel which is made for 75 gallons. They are both external filters that you hang on the back. So 750 gph.

Try posting this in the New world cichlids section and you'll get more replys and more informative people that know alot about them.

Oh yeah I forgot that not many people go there but if you wait you'll get informative answers, I waited and learned what angels were compatible with and every thing. ;)

Well taking into account potential stocking level, average waste production, tank size, water volume.. you'll be able to have 18 feet worth of fish as an absolute max from a filtration standpoint; discus being 6 inches, and the neons being one. However as the discus get territorial when spawning as is likely to happen in your tank.. I'd half that personally. so 15 discuss + 20 neons as a max, less being better + easier on the maintainance side. Also you have to consider that larger discuss could easily eat the neons. Soft water is required to keep them, and your discuss' will appreciate a very varied diet. Good luck!
