discus pricing?

wow! i see quite a few people on here keep discus! i have always loved theses beautiful fish, but here in canada they are so pricey! if you dont mind me asking, how much do you pay in the states for discus? Here they cost $90-$140 Canadian....each....

Im buying 4 this sunday at $43.99 ea. They are about 3".

I got mine from a breeder. They ranged from 4 - 5" and cost between $25.00 & $30.00 each.

Nice to see another Canadian. I live in Vernon B.C. I just bought my first Discus. Very hard to get here as most people don't want to devote a tank to them. The stores say they are to expenisve and no one wants to buy them. I lucked out in a store in Kelowna, they had a 2 for 1 on. They had three small ones and four really large ones. The big ones were $155.00 each CDN and the smaller ones were $49.00 each CDN and the one I got was $69.00 CDN so it worked out nice as I bought the 69.00 for 35.00 half price. It was the nicest colored one and the most alert. The other smaller ones were very dark and not well looking at all. So they are very dear in price here believe me. I was lucky like I said to get the one I got. The stores here will special order them in for you at that whopping price.

You should be able to get some nice Discus where you live? Lots of Discus breeders there I am sure. Any stores there have the 2 for 1?

I am so happy with my discus and greatful to have one. They are very beautiful

Ill be selling some of my 1" Discus sometime in December. They should be 2-3" by then. Ill probably sell them for $15-20 so PM me if any one is interested.

yea we do have a couple lfs' that sell discus...it's just being a 19yr old girl who gradded last year, dont have $100 to spend on one fish... but maybe there are breeders here...hope so!

Fish auctions are a good way to find nice and usually cheap fish. Search google for an aquarium society or something similar in your area and contact them to ask when the next one is. There is also a fish auction coming up in Vancouver on November 7. Check this link for a thread that has the details. You could always email Dave from the link and ask if there are going to be any/many discus there if your able to make it over.

I saw some nice discus at my small LFS for $45. I thought that was a decent price and debated it for a while, but in the end I decided against it because of what it would cost for 2 or 3. I found out after they sold that it was actually $45 to buy all 3 discus. Since then the cheapest I've seen them is $60, and that is still rare.
