Hi everyone i have just purchased myself a pair of stendker discus in the hope i can raise some young from them, i maybe been a bit modest but they are a great pair almost identical and in great condition without any peppering ill post some pics tomorrow for everyone just been removing stuff from the tank and its a little cloudy at the moment

If anyone has any breeding tips feel free to post them :good:

Congrats on getting your breeding pair, can't wait to see pics, they sound a nice pair.
Breeding tips, must say breeding them is the easy part, raising them is the hard part, something i'm still trying to master lol. Soft water to get good hatch rate and low water movement for good fertilization rate helps at start

Thanks i will get pics up asap they have settled in great with little to no stress stripes coming at all so i think i got a good pair they are really nice :good:

These guys have layed a batch of eggs all is going well and they are taking good care of the eggs and should hopefully hatch tomorrow does anyone have tips on how to raise the young what sort of foods do they eat and when do they stop feeding from the parents thanks. :good:

Congrats on eggs great news, they didn't waste any time , did you give them viagra lol. bbs is best at about 5 days free swimming, i have also used ZM100, they will continue to feed off parents foe quite a while, some people remove parents at 14 days free swiming, some leave them. once they are wrigglers start the daily waterchanges and gradually add harder water as they will grow better in harder water.
keep us updated and love to see pics of fry

Well they scoffed the eggs not sure why as im working away and the missus was taking care of them maybe its their first couple of attempts at raising young wish me luck for the next time :good:

That can happen when it is the first attempt at breeding. It may even take them 3 or 4 tries before they get it right.

Again, are they with other Discus? Because if that is the case it is quite possible the other Discus may have eaten the eggs. Not only that, the breeding pair is going to get super nasty with the other guys and may even bully them to death!

Hi yes they are with two juveniles ones just over 2"s and the other just over a 1" their wasnt any bullying really when the eggs were around but i understand their is a good possibility that they could of eaten them aswell thanks.

to have success they really need to be in own breeding tank with sponge filter, barebottom and some kind of breeding cone/flowerpot. Once they start breeding, if water quality is right they can settle into a pattern of laying eggs every 6-8 days. i have to put a cage over my eggs as the pair still eat their eggs but most fish will eventually get it right after afew go's
good luck with future spawns

Hi i have removed the younger discus and now i just have 4 black corys and a couple of young plecs, under a inch in size the tank temp has been raised and i have done a couple of daily water changes in attempt to get them to spawn again.

Is their anything else i should do thanks.
