discus info

i plan on havin a tank with bout 4 angels, 5 khulis, a rainbow shark, an som tetras, and i was just wonderin could i be able to get just 1 discus? i kno nothin about discus' an i was just wonderin if i could keep only one. becausse i saw a few at the LFS an they are stunnin looking an id like to have 1 so any info would be appreciated. o and also what kind of tetras would i be able to keep in this kind of tank? i kno this isnt the tetra forum but if anyone knos id love to hear, thanks

A single discus simply wouldn't do well in that setup, sorry.

I agree. Discus best kept in shoals or occasionally in adult pairs; also most people reckon on needing around 50 litres each, although there are always people who say more than this is required. They need higher temparatures than normal (29C) and very low nitrates, and definitely no ammonia /nitrites. Also, they need peace and quiet - I imagine the shark would be way to boisterous for discus. The peace-and-quiet extends to where you have the tank as well. The water for adult discus needs to be soft and acidic for preferance.
Some people say you shouldn't keep them with angels as the angel fish can carry a parasite /bacteria which is harmless to them but which discus are very susceptable to.
Dunno about kuhli loaches.
