hi guys and gals ,i finally have 2 discus...got them today, 2 for £20 wich i thought was really good...cant wait to see the grow up in my tank !

That is dirt cheap. Hate to sound negative but I hope you know what they require and that you shouldn't be keeping just two (if that's all you have?).

Oh dear, this shows you haven't really researched the fish you have just purchased... :-(

You should only keep two in a tank when they are a breeding pair. Considering the cost of your two they won't be, unless you knew the supplier personally or something.

Most likely one fish will become the most dominant, and the other will be consistantly harrassed and beaten. This can lead to illness and death, at best they will just be utterly miserable the whole time... You should really keep a minimum of 5, this way any aggression is normally spread through the group.

Can I ask what size tank you have and the tank mates/setup? Also have you researched the water parameters required for discus keeping and did you match your suppliers?

tank size is 180 litres and the tank mates are 2 angles, clown loach, 2 firemouths, silver shark, 2 kribs, some corrys and a few black neons

ok thats aound 45 gallons. tbh you may aswell get rid of your discus. heres some reasons.

1, Discus need to be in group of 5 or more unless a breeding pair.
2, your firemouths and angels will bully them
3, your tank isnt big eough to hold 5 discus, as they need 10gals each.

please either buy a bigger tank or rehome them.

Oh boy...

The clown loach will get too big for your tank (takes a while tho admittedly) and should really be kept in groups.

The silver shark will get too big for your tank and should be kept in groups.

Not that familar with Firemouths, but I would guess they may be aggressive and I think they prefer hard water. Kribs too can be very aggressive. I would not mix any of these two with discus, let alone in a tank of your size.

Angels and discus can work out in very large tanks, but again I would suggest it for yours. In my experience angels are more aggressive and faster eaters than discus and you'll need to make sure the discus feed ok. I had two in with 4 discus for a very short time and had to remove them in the end.

The black neons will be ok, though be prepared that a fully grown discus or angel is capable of eating them.

Check what corys you have, most prefer cool water and won't like the high temps required by discus, which makes me wonder if you have done any research on the water requirements of discus?

FYI they need to be kept a higher temp than is the 'norm' at around 30C, and they need moderately soft water to do well long term and not get stunted.

Please please learn to research every purchase you make for your tank...

i have spoke with my mum and dad and have decided that we are going to try and return them tomorrow...i must admit that this is the first time i have bought some fish and not had alot of nowlage about them...which is obviousy what these fish need...maybe have them one day but not at the time...also me and my dad are going to try and get hold of a 260 litre tank so the others can grow larger...i have the discus in a plastic tub in the tank and the dimentions are 9cm wide, 9cm deep and 15 across...is the large enough for the two of them untill tomorow..btw i just mesured them and they are 4cm tall and 3 cm across ???

Juvenille Discus need 4-6 feedings per day and very clean water. I would return them and wait until you have lots of knowledge on how to keep them. Discus are not hard to keep although, if you dont do what they want in terms of water changes, feeding, water parameters then they will die.
I have 7 juvenille Discus in my 47g tank and although i would not recommend this to people just starting out with Discus i do 70% water change daily and the tank is bare bottomed combined with over filtration.

they will be fine in the tank untill tomorow release them from the tubs. it would have just cused a long term problem for the discus. but feed them now n the tub ake sure they get plenty then release them. thankyou for doing the right thing. im sure the discus will be glad to cme stay with you in later months/years whe you get a 260ltr tank.
