Discus Breeding Question

Hi i have a pair of breeding discus and my question is why do the eggs keep turning white. Each time the discus spawn the eggs stay brownish orange a little bit longer but after about 3 to 4 days they turn white and puff up. I was wondering if it is the water quality or something else. Any help appreciated.

Generally it is because they are not fertile. have you actually watched the spawning take place to confirm what you have are not two females? They will spawn together but w/o a male they just both lay eggs with nobody to fertilize them. If you are 100% certain you have a pair, then there are a host of possibilities ranging from one being infertile to water parameter issues of current in the tank.

I had a similar issue years back, I got over 20 spawns from a couple and never one viable egg. The ultimate conclusion reached after trying all sorts of solutions was the male was shooting blanks.

I have actually witnessed the spawning and caught it on video... if you look up mark2109111 on youtube you should be able to see it . thanks

I looked at the vid and can not tell from it. When mine spawned I could see which one was adding eggs and which one was fertilizing them. My problem was one or both were not fertile.
