I have two fish who were originally from a pair, now i thought the male had died from 1 pair and the female from another.

The first pair was a red turq and snakeskin

The second was a identical pair of cobalt blue's

Now the red turq survived who i believed to be a female and the i believed the male from the cobalt pair to of survived, i put the red turq in with the cobalt blue in which they got on great and appeared to pair up with lots of shimmering and showing off aswell as cone cleaning so i thought great!

Well tonight after a cold water change and some fresh blood worm i noticed they were showing breeding activity however the cobalt blue appeared to have a egg layer pretrude from her and was cleaning and going up the cone as they do, and the turq was hovering around beside her.

So my question is have i just assumed the wrong sex's of my fish or is it poissible i have a pair of gay fish haha or dont fish make this mistake.

Thanks any advice appreciated. :good:

Just read that it is common for blue discus to pair off with other females any truth in this?

thanks.

in the abscense of the opposite sex lots of birds and some animals will pair off with the same sex so i suppose it could happen with fish as well
hope you find some info
regards scot :)

Looks like its confirmed they are both femals as soon as the cobalt layed her eggs the turq come over and ate them so now their is no eggs their wasnt any attempts to fertilise them just straight into eating them!
