i woke this morning turned lights on on tank to find my pair of discus are attempting to spawn they doing everything other than the eggs it will be there first spawning so dont think they have got the idea of what to do just yet lol. is there any chance the eggs will hatch with my ph 7 and hard water dont know what it is at the mo as iv ran out of tests and my local shop has closed for re-furb

Hope this post doesn't dissapoint, but here's a few pointers about breeding.

1. Chances are it'll take them a few goes to get it right.
2. Its unlikely the males sperm will be able to penetrate the eggs in hard water.
3. You don't really know you have a male/female until they successfully breed.

Good luck though, even if nothing comes out of breeding it is interesting watching them.

I agree with Kev B.
To add my own experience: I've had discus lay eggs, and was v excited. Then the "male" of the pair promptly ate them.
A couple of weeks later they were cleaning the filter surface etc and doing the "discus dance". Much excitment.
The "male" then laid eggs. Pah! I'd just assumed that they were a male/female pair, and the non-egg-laying one from Round 1 was therefore male. They were the oldest in the tank, and I assume that all the mature fish were female.
