hi what would i need to keep discus except a tank , water , obviously heater and filtrstion

and will my 2ft by 2ft by 1ft tank b suitable???
thanks

No you dont need an aquarium 250 litres + for discus ...although if you were to have a school of 6 you would need that,so i know what you mean. But you could house a pair in it.They would probably be shy though. So i would not reccomend it.Also if you buy discus check what water parimeters they were kept in before.Ph is the one which mattters most,so if your tap water is 0.5 Ph above what they are being kept in i wouldn't buy them, but you could always get RO(reverse reverse osmosis)water to start with then acclimatise them to it.My discus live in a Ph of 8 fine!I know it's amazing when apparently most fish won't even cope with that. They were tank bred not wild caught though

Lets just get this straight, you can only keep two discus in a tank if they are bonded breeding pair. You cannot add two discus into a tank and expect them to pair, 9/10 it just won't happen and one will end up getting bullied and will have no escape.

No disrespect to the original poster but if you need to ask questions such as this you are a long way from being ready to own discus, and you most likely wouldn't want to buy a breeding pair anyway. Breeding pairs typically retail from around £150ish upwards.

With experience paired discus can be kept in small tanks with a min height of 18" say 20-30g. As a beginner you'd best doing lots of research buy searching this forum, searching google and reading books. If you decide your ready for the commitment of discus your looking at a group of 5-6 fish and around 50gal minimum.

My tank is 47gal with six young Discus. I do daily water changes of 50% and feeding six times per day. :good:

I haven't read the other replies so am probably duplicating here!! You need to provide discus with the highest quality water possible. They need low PH RO water ideally. They are more sensitive than other tropical fish and have totally different requirements to the African cichlids.

Your tank is way too small for discus sorry, you may be able to keep a very young pair in it for a couple of months but that really is it. Discus grow very tall as well as wide so they really appreciate a tank depth of about 22" minimum. If you are going to keep a pair long term you will need something like a 5 x 2 x 2 tank.

Yeh,sorry i didn't explain that they needed to be a pair first of,mine paired easy though os you never know.I would have to disagree keeping an adult pair in a 5ft x2ft x 2ft tank, although it would probably make them breed easier and would be nicer it just isn't worth it.The breeder i bought all my discus of i think kept them in 32 x 16 x 16 tanks or something!?

5x2x2 is a good for a group, think that was a typo.
