Iv got 8 discus .

2 amazon swords and around 12 giant vallis

The swords are doin ok but looking a bit tired.

But the giant vallis are dying they are goin transparent on some leaves and more to the top

i know giant vallis like hard water and mine is soft due to the discus

Im not using anything at the mo due to the fish be funny with water conditions

The ferts i own are TPN+, Easycarbo, API root tabs and API leafzone

lighting is 3 X 54W on for about 8hrs a day

A few members in the planted forum have suggested TPN+ and Easycarbo, but how will the discus re-act to these ferts?

I do 50% WC twice a week
cheers :good:

they will be fine. look what's in them. nitrate phosphate potassium & trace elements. nothing that isnt already in the water ;)

easycarbo is glutaraldehyde which is fine at the reccomended dose. they still should be fine wth up to 5x but then the vallis will probably die.

Cheers :good:
So will the plants survive and/or do better after dosing?

How much should i add? Id rather dose twice a week when i do a water change.

The tank is around 335-350L of water, once taken sand, rocks etc in to consideratio.

dose 10ml of easycarbo every day and dose 5ml of TPN+ every day

the plants wont just be surviving any more they will be living

Could i add it all at once?

What affects will i see if i overdose?
yes all at once...if you overdose the TPN+ nothing really

if you overdose the easy carbo you could kill the plants, if you did it by atleast 3x over dose you could damage the fish but i doubt it!

I did the 50% WC change today took the dead leaves off, trimmed the roots to make them easier to plants amd dosed 8-10ml of easycarbo and around 5ml of TPN+ ill dose this way for a week and see how they do

cheers :good:

any plant would benefit from extra nutrients.
give chance to see a change, they may even be still changing from emersed to submerged form.

Since starting my dosing on sunday the fish have be getting more wierd as the days go on, breathing fast (couple times a sec) not eating as much or as fast, more bullying and just general different behavour.

Do phosphates affect them
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 18 (WC due sunday)
PH 6.4
temp 29-30c

there hasnt been any evidece put forward that PO4 affects fish. Some poeple have added up to 10ppm without any adverse affects.

for your size tank, you should be dosing 15ml per day!

not 5ml as you are currently, so i dont think you can blame the fertiliser. easycarbo is fine at thos levels too.

well 10ml of easycarbo and 5ml of TPN+ is not really doing much for the giant vallis iv now doesed up to 15ml TPN+
the amazon swords seem to be doin ok.

is there another plants like the giant vallis which will grow in softer water?
